‘Clients’ vs ‘Customers’
I call my clients ’clients’ instead of ‘customers.’ Why? Customers to me, sounds like the customers of a grocery store, for example. It's a big chain, it's a giant store, the customers are just coming to buy something quickly and the company only ever sees the transactions instead of the people. ‘Clients,’ to me, comes across as we have a relationship, it's an ongoing relationship, we know each other well, and the value that I'm providing is huge (whether or not it's a big or small price tag).
One of the big reasons that I stumbled upon Household Operations is that I was wracking my brain thinking ‘I'm a contractor,’ ‘I can do a handyman stuff,’ ‘I do handyman stuff,’ ‘there's so many people that need help taking care of their home; what sort of subscription service or reoccurring service can I offer to homeowners to check on their home, take care of their home, and take care of the little stuff?’ the other big reason that I came up with household operations is that I did not enjoy the fact that when I do a kitchen remodel for someone it's pretty much the only time I'm going to see them in their lifetime, or I won't see them for another five years when they remodel their bathroom. And then to find the next client I have to start from scratch and find a new big job. And repeat. I don't get to see my clients anymore, I don't get a stay in contact with them; it's not the same when you don't see them all the time. I wanted to see my clients on a regular basis. I really wanted clients that I know them and they know me, and build a community with my clients and their friends and neighbors because we all know each other, and in five years we can say we've known each other for five years. I feel like I struck gold coming up with this service and I am in love with it!
