Biggest Myths of Being a Woman in Construction
Myth number one: if you're a woman working in construction, you are working in the office. Myth number two: women can't do the labor of construction because everything is too big and heavy.
Absolute lies. To address the first myth, yes there are female general contractors that don't lift any tools, but there are also plenty of male general contractors that have no idea what they're doing, they are not involved in the job, and I don't even know how they got there! There are also plenty of female general contractors that do do the work and are extremely involved in the jobs. For both genders, I don't discriminate if they're tired of working in the field and now they've moved into the office or a supervisor role. We all want to get to the point in our jobs and careers, as business owners or employees, that we want to do less work and be less involved and making more money. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
To address the second myth: has anyone ever heard of tools? Has anyone ever seen a tractor or a forklift? We are in 2026, the modern era where there is a tool to do every single activity imaginable, including in construction. And men use those tools too! It's not just the 'weak little women who use tools to hold up cabinets while you are installing them or a dolly to carry material inside the house. And even for getting the jar off of a lid, maybe yes a lot of men can get a lid off of a jar by themselves, but I have those little grippies to get them off and I do just fine. It's the same in the construction world, maybe with the physical labor of construction men have an easier time with it but that does not mean women don't do it, they're not good at it, they don't enjoy it, or anything else.
